Palestinian Resistance Music
Music has long been a powerful force in the Palestinian struggle—preserving history, igniting resistance, and amplifying voices that refuse to be silenced. This mixtape brings together songs that capture the spirit of resilience, solidarity, and defiance, from timeless anthems to contemporary sounds of revolution.
This mixtape features Palestinian musicians performing performing in different genres – from folk to hip hop – as well as artists worldwide singing to Palestine and for the resistance. In this feature, we highlight two groups included in the playlist. We urge you to listen to the whole thing (we get goosebumps every time we do). El-Funoun Palestinian Popular Dance Troupe
El Funoun Palestinian Popular Dance troupe was founded in 1979 to safeguard and showcase authentic Palestinian dance and music, debuting with a performance at Birzeit University’s Dabke Festival that same year. Through its performances, it breathed life into Palestine’s traditional musical and dance heritage, introducing some contemporary interpretations.

Since its establishment, the Troupe has given over one thousand performances both within Palestine and abroad. It has also put on eight productions including Wadi a-Tuffah (Apple Valley) in 1984, Marj Iben Amer (The Plains of Ibn Amer) in 1989, Zaghareed (Ululations) in 1997, and the latest Haifa, Beirut & Beyond in 2002.
The troupe is also responsible for creating the Palestine Folklore Day – an annual celebration that launched in 1986 – and for establishing the Popular Art Centre in 1987.

سمعتوا مقطوعتين لفرقة الفنون الشعبية الفلسطينية باخر ميكس تيب النا؟ تأسست هاي الفرقة بال1979 لحماية وحفض وعرض الرقص والموسيقى الفلسطينية الفلكلورية والشعبية، وكان ظهورها لأول مرة بعرض في مهرجان الدبكة بجامعة بيرزيت في نفس السنة. من خلال عروضهم، احيوا تراث الموسيقي والرقص التقليدي بفلسطين، بالاضافة الى بعض الترجمة المعاصرة للوحات. كما أن الفرقة مسؤولة عن إنشاء اليوم الشعبي الفلسطيني وهو احتفال سنوي بدأ بال1986 وباليضافة لإنشاء مركز الفنون الشعبية بال1987

Sabreen Band: The Pioneers of Palestine’s Modern Sound
Sabreen – the Arabic verb for “patience” – is a pioneering Arabic music group from Palestine formed in 1980 by Said Murad. Its founding vision was to develop the Palestinian modern sound. Its music reflects the humanitarian and cultural reality of Palestine while highlighting the suffering endured by its people. Some of its notable members over the years have included Kamilya Jubran, Odeh Tourjman and Issa Freij.
Each of Sabreen’s records captures a certain aspect or moment in the Palestinian experience. Their first album, A’n Assoumoud, was released in 1982 and exuded a sense of Palestinian patriotism and the struggle for self-determination. The following, Dukhan el Barakin, offered a revolutionary sound, mirroring the attacks on Lebanon, the withdrawal of Palestinians, and the occupation of Southern Lebanon. Their lyrics were authored by a number of notable poets and writers including Mahmoud Darwish, Samih al Wasim, Hussein Barghouti, and Fadwa Tuqan. In 1987, the non-profit, community organization Sabreen Association for Artistic Development was founded. It focuses on promoting music and other artistic forms of expression in Palestine.

صابرين هي فرقة موسيقية عربية رائدة من فلسطين تأسست عام 1980 على يد سعيد مراد. وكانت رؤيتها التأسيسية هي تطوير الصوت الفلسطيني الحديث. موسيقاهم تعكس الواقع الإنساني والثقافي لفلسطين وتسلط الضوء على المعاناة التي يعيشها شعبها. من بين أعضاء المجموعة البارزين على مر السنين سعيد مراد، وكميليا جبران، وعودة ترجمان، وعيسى فريج. كل تسجيلاتهم وألبوماتهم المتنوعة تلتقط جانبًا معينا من التجربة الفلسطينية. صدر ألبومهم الأول "عن الصمود" عام 1982، وجسد إحساسًا بالوطنية الفلسطينية والنضال من أجل تقرير المصير. الألبوم التالي، دخان البراكين، قدم صوتًا ثوريًا يعكس الهجوم على لبنان وانسحاب الفلسطينيين من لبنان واحتلال جنوبه. كلمات أغانيهم كتبها عدد من الشعراء والكتاب البارزين منهم محمود درويش وسميح الوسيم وحسين البرغوثي وفدوى طوقان. وفي عام 1987، تأسست جمعية صابرين للتنمية الفنية كمنظمة مجتمعية غير حكومية تهدف لتطوير الموسيقى في فلسطين والتعبير الفني على مختلف اشكاله
