My Name Is Jeanette Feghali: A Sabah Mixtape by radiokarantina
WORDS & MIXTAPE BY NASRI SAYEGH JR
Sixty minutes with the legendary Lebanese singer and actress, Sabah. Born Jeanette Gerges Feghali (1927) in Bdedoun, Wadi Chahrour, Lebanon and nicknamed Shahruret-El-Wadi (Songbird of the Valley), the megastar of stage and screen released over 50 albums and acted in 98 movies and over 20 stage plays, and has a reported repertoire of over 3,500 songs. In this 1966 Interview on Tele Liban with infamous TV anchor Leila Rustom, Sabah – who married at least nine times – laughs, sings, remembers, laughs again, and gives us a few fashion and diet tips.
In March 2020 on the eve of the world’s pandemic quarantine, Nasri Sayegh Jr created radiokarantina. From Beirut to the world – and/or vice-versa – rk is a project that conjures together music, stories, and images during the exceptional times the world is currently witnessing. The project has become, in spite of itself, a sounding board for the upheavals and tragedies that strike Lebanon and the region.
